Compass Group resourcing & development director Melanie Hayes has been appointed today to a UK Apprenticeship Delivery Board, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has announced.
Hayes, who has previously been identified as one of Recruiter’s 11 Most Influential In-House Recruiters, was one of seven business leaders appointed to the board. Chaired by Prime Minister David Cameron’s apprenticeship adviser Nadhim Zahawi MP, the board will encourage more businesses to develop quality apprenticeships.
The members will act as apprenticeship champions within their sector, working with employers of all sizes to increase both the number of apprentice places on offer and the supply of talented candidates, BIS said. They will also work to identify challenges that may be stopping employers getting involved with apprenticeships.
The appointments were revealed as part of a focus on apprenticeships at a special reception in Downing Street taking place today where businesses will celebrate employing record numbers of apprentices. Other firms will pledge to boost their numbers of apprentices.
These firms and organisations include Adecco, the Ministry of Defence, Deloitte, Greene King, Sellafield, Prezzo, Barclays and International Financial Data Services.
The government has pledged to deliver 3m apprenticeships by 2020.
