According to the Kansas City Star, Joseph Balano, owner of Global Employment Group, which traded as Staffing Connections, kept US$260.7k (£182.4k) for himself. He reportedly spent it on gambling, mortgage repayments on two properties and car payments. He failed to pay a further $232.8k in taxes.

He pleaded guilty in August and was this week sentenced to two years and three months in prison and ordered to pay $493.5k in restitution.
