Investing in Talent Awards 2016: Key lessons for business and individual success
Recruiters who attended Recruiter’s Investing in Talent Awards 2016 in London yesterday are well used to the idea of making the most of what they got through investing in their own staff and their candidates.
But as those attending the event heard in a keynote address by journalist and best-selling author specialising in personal development, smart thinking and entrepreneurship, Rachel Bridge, making the most of what you have got is an important principle behind both individual and business success.
Drawing on her experience interviewing many successful people, and her new book Ambition: Why it is good to want more and how to get it, the former enterprise editor of The Sunday Times, and now Times and Telegraph journalist, Bridge outlined some key lessons she has learned.
Know what you are trying to achieve and make it a priority. Bridge described how one successful entrepreneur spend 15 years developing a vineyard in Australia, but only half a day building the shack in which he lived.
She suggested applying the following:
- Use your time better and focus on doing things that are productive
- Become a ‘go-to person’ by creating your own niche area of skill or expertise
- Don’t overthink decision. “Make a decision and move on”
- Focus on the task in hand and avoid multi-tasking. “It’s a disaster,” she added
- Don’t make assumptions and always ask questions. “Someone somewhere will know the answer”
- Just go for it
Recruiter will feature extensive coverage of our Investing In Talent Awards 2016, sponsored by APM Careers, Charles Russell Speechlys, North Star and The Planner Jobs, in our December issue.
