Singapore announces logistics roadmap with promise of jobs
Singapore’s government has announced thousands of jobs will be created in the country’s logistics sector over the next five years.
The move, announced in a government statement this week, reveals 2,000 jobs for professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) will be created under a new industry roadmap setting out a transformation plan for the logistics industry, and is the fourth industry-specific roadmap to be launched by the government.
Under the roadmap, the government will work with key enterprises to implement new technologies and invest in infrastructure solutions that will support automation. This will include next-generation facilities with high specification units that encourage the co-location of companies.
To help boost innovation, Singapore’s government has also committed to work with research institutions and universities to develop capabilities in the logistics and supply chain management areas. Centres of Innovation and Centres of Excellence will also be established to help companies build differentiating capabilities.
