Café owner interviews ‘bored’ pensioner for job
A Devonshire café owner has praised the proactivity of an 89-year-old jobseeker set to come in for an interview today.
The BBC reports jobseeker Joe Bartley, who lives in Paignton, Devon, was so bored being retired he put an ad in his local paper asking for work.
His ad resulted in two offers – one from a restaurant and the other in a supermarket.
Speaking to Recruiter this morning ahead of Joe’s interview, Kate Allen, part owner of the Cantina Café, said her partner saw Joe’s advert in local paper the Herald Express. She said she was so impressed with his proactivity she decided to call him and ask him to come in for an interview today.
“There’s no need for a man like this to be feeling alone, feeling he’s still got useful skills and unable to work, so we thought we might be able to fit him in down here.”
Asked about the role Joe could take on, Allen said she would talk further with him when he came to the café later today.
“He said he can manage some fairly light duties. There’s lot of things he can do – clearing tables, talking to customers, a little bit of gardening, hedge trimming – we have to maintain the small area of land that we have got. A little big of everything.
“Everyone who works here has to do a little bit of everything, so we’ll see how he fits in.”
