PM moves ex-recruiter Smith to chief whip
2 November 2017

Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed a former recruitment consultant as her new chief whip.
Reuters reports deputy chief whip Julian Smith will succeed Gavin Williamson, who was earlier appointed as defence minister following Sir Michael Fallon’s resignation.
Smith, who set up his own executive recruitment company Arq International back in 1999, is now responsible for ensuring party members vote in support of the government.
Former employment minister Esther McVey succeeds Smith in his previous role.
