Tesco recruits diverse tech graduates from Makers Academy

Supermarket giant Tesco has recruited a number of recent graduates from London-based software engineering school Makers Academy.
Makers Academy has committed to helping to close the diversity gap in technology skills in the UK, with no university qualification or age limit requirement for applicants to its intensive three-month programme. Entry is based on interviews and a candidate’s potential to succeed at the school, while special attention is paid to those from diverse backgrounds.
Upon graduation, developers are put forward for jobs with employers across the country, while Tesco says it chose to access Makers Academy’s top talent in response to the school’s reputation for software training, as well as its emphasis on diversity.
According to Makers Academy CEO Evgeny Shadchnev, the trainees chosen to join the Tesco team hail from a mix of backgrounds, including army, financial services and digital marketing.
