GLAA arrests man in Croydon on suspicion of modern slavery offences

Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority modern slavery officers have arrested one man, and are supporting six potential victims, following a search of a house in Croydon, South London.

In a statement released yesterday, the GLAA revealed the officers discovered five men and a woman living in very poor, cramped conditions following a raid at an address in London Road early yesterday morning.

A Polish national was arrested on suspicion of modern slavery, forced labour and labour exploitation, and is currently in custody, where he will be interviewed by officers.

The alleged victims, all Polish nationals, who had been working within the construction industry, are being supported and will be offered ongoing help from a number of agencies.

The GLAA operation was supported by the Met Police, including its organised crime advisers.
