Royal news: Princess Anne recruits for private secretary

A right royal recruitment role may well be overshadowed (slightly) by a certain event this weekend.

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding gets under way tomorrow, spare a thought for aunt of the groom, HRH The Princess Royal. Princess Anne, arguably the royal family’s busiest royal, is advertising for a right-hand man or woman, ideally with a military background, to assist HRH in “all aspects of her official engagements and duties within the UK and overseas”.

The successful candidate will replace her current private secretary Captain Nick Wright.

The advert, posted on the Royal Household’s website, states the role will be diverse, “from advising and supporting HRH in all matters and accompanying The Princess Royal on overseas trips, to supervising the planning and execution of the official programme”.

The vacancy closes next week, with interviews taking place in July. However, the right candidate won’t start until November, according to the job advert, so brace yourselves for a long and gruelling recruitment process.
