Take ‘common sense’ approach with religious views in interviews

Recruiters have been urged to advise clients to take a “common sense” approach if candidates do not wish to make any physical contact with interviewers due to their religious beliefs.
The advice follows BBC reports about a case in Sweden last week in which Swedish Muslim Farah Alhajeh declined to shake the hand of a male interviewer due to religious reasons, resulting in her interview being stopped. Alhajeh, who placed her hand over her heart in greeting instead, was applying for a job as an interpreter.
