One in five Halfords recruits are ex-forces

One in five vacancies at high street retailer Halfords have been filled by former members of the armed forces since the company signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant in February.
“In the last four months, 43 of the company’s 200 vacancies have been filled by forces leavers or veterans,” a company spokesperson told Recruiter.
Among the pledges made by Halfords when it signed the Covenant was to guarantee ex-forces personnel an interview, provided they meet certain minimum standards. A guaranteed interview is also offered to those personnel who are recruited through the Career Transition Partnership.
Halfords’ CEO Graham Stapleton said: “We have found that colleagues with a forces background bring some great attributes to our team, such as discipline, teamwork and problem solving. This initiative has made a real difference to their lives.”
Minister for defence, people and veterans Tobias Ellwood added: “This is a great success story. The impact that Halfords’ guaranteed interviews scheme has had shows how signing the Armed Forces Covenant can make a real positive difference for both employers and former forces personnel. We would strongly encourage other employers to partner with defence.”
