Join ‘heroic’ public sector workers, urges Boris

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is urging people to consider a career in the public sector, after hailing the contribution of public sector workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have seen more clearly than ever the heroic efforts of our public workers during this pandemic. The fantastic teachers, police officers and NHS workers truly are the pride of the nation and embody the spirit of public duty that every one of us can aspire towards,” said Johnson.

“Together, we are on a mission to build back better – protect our NHS, make our streets safer, educate the next generation and unleash Britain’s potential.”

The comments come as figures on the numbers of trainee teachers who have become fully qualified in the past year and the government’s progress towards its manifesto pledge of recruiting 20,000 new police officers are set to be unveiled.

Meanwhile, Northern Gas and Power is set to create 150 jobs in the North-East. The new jobs include energy consultants, customer service, training and technical roles, with the first occupants expected to move into the company’s new state-of-the-art Riga building in Gateshead later this year.

Earlier in the summer the overarching Global Procurement Group that includes Northern Gas and Power launched a new career site to assist its recruitment drive, including options to work from home. The site also features positions across its global operations in Malta, Paris, India and Texas.

In other positive jobs news, London media company Box Media, says it has grown its workforce by a third since the start of lockdown, adding 10 new employees.
