CitySprint and Poundland create nearly 2,000 jobs

Job creation news comes today from distribution company CitySprint and retailer Poundland.

CitySprint will recruit over 750 couriers across the UK ahead of the Christmas rush, the company has announced.

Cities in which CitySprint has found extra demand are Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and Southampton, a company statement said.

Drivers new to CitySprint will join over 5,000 couriers in the UK, with the business seeking a wide range of vehicles: small vans, large vans (including refrigerated models), push bikes and cargo bikes.

Poundland’s announcement of plans to create 1,000 full-time and part-time roles comes with its acquisition of Northern frozen food chain Fultons Food. The retailer will also invest more than £25m in the frozen food operation, a Poundland announcement said.

All 800 Fultons employees will join Poundland this month with no changes to their terms and conditions, a Poundland announcement said.

Poundland will establish Fulton’s Barnsley base as its National Frozen Distribution Centre and build the infrastructure at its Harlow distribution centre in Essex to bring its frozen and chilled food offer to stores across the South of England.
