NHS Professionals appoints Ives as chief people officer

NHS Professionals has appointed Helen Ives as chief people officer.

Ives joined the organisation last month [January 2023]. She will lead the people vision for both the over 1,200 corporate staff and the 190,000 Bank Members (flexible workers) as well as deliver the employee value proposition, supporting the recruitment and retention of people into the business.

Ives brings with her HR experience from elsewhere in the NHS, where she has worked for the past seven years, and from a range of sectors including technology, logistics and professional services.

Ives was CPO at Solent NHS Trust for four years, where she designed and delivered the Trust’s ‘Great Place to Work’ strategy and where she was awarded the Innovation in Practice Award from the British Psychological Society for her work on leadership development.

Ives was then seconded to the NHS England team as workforce and training lead for the Covid-19 vaccination programme, before joining Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board as the CPO.

Established in 2001 as a Special Health Authority (SpHA), NHS Professionals has more than 190,000 registered flexible workers (Bank Members), making it the largest provider of flexible workers to the NHS.

NHS Professionals Bank Members include clinical and non-clinical staff at all grades, working in multiple specialisms from the ward floor to senior leadership levels. Locum doctors are represented by the specialist Doctors Direct service. Volume international recruitment is delivered through a dedicated team within NHS Professionals, known as NHS Professionals International.

Wholly owned by the Department of Health and Social Care, any operating surplus made by NHS Professionals is re-invested into the wider healthcare economy.
