Did Melica taste success in The Apprentice in Türkiye?

BBC reality programme The Apprentice sent the remaining candidates packing this week – to Türkiye.

Melica Moshiri, recruitment’s representative in The Apprentice, headed to the Cappadocia region in Central Türkiye with her team, offering corporate clients a balloon ride experience, along with fine dining Turkish cuisine.

Despite arguing her case to be made sub-team leader in the kitchen team, Our Melica was overlooked in favour of her Nemesis Mia. She wasn’t happy. “Yes, she has a very strong catering background and she is very passionate about food, but so am I,” said Melica. “I know a lot about Turkish cuisine, probably more than she does.”

But luckily, Our Melica would get to share her culinary expertise when her half of the team were dispatched to a tasting session with a local Turkish chef.

While the others on the team effused about the dishes, Melica’s response was less enthusiastic: “I am not keen on that, I can really taste cumin,” said she, after trying one. The cook’s face looked slightly miffed but they moved on to another dish. “Again, that’s an acquired taste, isn’t it?” said the budding entrepreneur. “I am not keen on that.”

Mia’s face was a picture… So back in the kitchen, Mia took control and rather than making use of Our Melica’s cooking knowledge, she was told to lay the table in preparation for the fine dining experience. She wasn’t comfortable doing it on her own and asked for help, but Mia just told her to get on with it. “This is not my job, I am going above and beyond in this task.” Hmmm…

Anyway, despite Melica forgetting to chill the white wine (teammate Dean wasn’t impressed) and the MD of the corporate client having oil spilt all over him by the ‘waiter’, the guests loved the food and the team ended up in the boardroom with Our Melica being on the winning team yet again.

And as for Melica’s future in the process? On The Apprentice: You’re Fired, hosted by comedian Tom Allan, former contestant Thomas (Tom) Skinner opined that Melica “reminds me of my wife”. When asked by Tom (Allan) to explain in what way Melica reminded him of his wife, Skinner said: “You know, when she [his wife] is setting the table, and I go, ‘hey babe, make me a sandwich’, she says ‘no, you can do it!’ So maybe she might win it!”

Praise indeed – bosh!
