Seasonal factors have caused online recruitment activity to fall by nine points last month, according to January’s Monster Employment Index.

The index fell to 111 in January from 120 in December, with hospitality and tourism registering the biggest decline by 10 points.

However, arts, entertainment, sports and leisure all registered increases in activity.

Workplace stress is having a strong impact on the nation’s love lives, a survey by Monster.co.uk has revealed.

Of those questioned in the survey, 37% revealed that the stress brought on by their job spoils the time they spend with their partner. And almost a quarter (23%) admitted that they feel expected to put their work life ahead of their home life.
