Banking, commerce and industry, secretarial and IT  recruiter Contact Recruitment has cut 14 jobs in London, and is closing its Dublin business as a result of deteriorating market conditions. 

“It’s going to be a tough year ahead, and we need to batten down the hatches now,” Uzair Bawany, Contact Recruitment’s managing director told Recruiter.

IT contractors want greater flexibility from fee structures in on-going assignments. Members of the Professional Contractors Group told Recruiter a percentage of agency fees should be transferred to them when contracts are renewed.

Robert Thesiger has resigned as chief executive of the Imprint Group, according to a statement released late yesterday by the board of recruitment services firm Premier Group, Imprint’s parent company.

Colin Webster, Imprint’s chief financial officer, has also stepped down, the statement said.

Both have also resigned from their positions on the Premier Group board.

Energy giant British Gas has announced it will expand its green workforce in 2009, with the creation of 1,400 jobs.
