Britain is not in a recession and neither is it anywhere near it, and the economy should recover by mid-2002, according to Mark Berrisford-Smith, senior economist at HSBC bank. However, he said the US “is bound to have a brief recession” with consumer confidence already fading and there will be a knock-on effect for the UK economy.
The National Assembly for Wales has chosen a fixed-price procurement contract for the £92 million Wales Millennium Centre opera house amid fears that costs could otherwise escalate beyond its control. Two other tenders have been shelved. However, the project could face further delays as the assembly has called for a period of market testing for the fixed-price option.
