More than 3,500 jobs will be created in Australia, thanks to the filming of motion picture ‘The Wolverine’, starring Hugh Jackman.
This is due to the government giving the producers a one-off grant of A$12.8m (£8.2m), which it believes will result in more than A$80m investment – without which the producers “would not have chosen Australia as the location”, according a statement from the office of Prime Minister Julia Gillard.Over 2,000 jobs will come “in all parts of the production sector from performers to the people behind the cameras and in studios”, with a further 1,500 “indirect jobs” in areas servicing the production, such as transport, catering and hospitality also predicted.
The statement adds: “This new chapter in the Wolverine series will help develop the skills and experience of our film sector – jobs that we want to keep here in Australia, not overseas.”
