Chattering and collaborating in the cloud
Cloud computing company Salesforce, developers of the Force.com platform, is aiming to bring the power of social networks to the workplace with the launch of its Chatter application. Chatter allows users to collaborate in real-time with a secure and private social network for their business.
All 135,000 native Force.com applications will instantly become social, says the company. Currently, only two companies provide recruitment applications on the Force.com platform in the UK: JobPartners, with its small to medium-sized business version of ActiveRecruiter, and US-based JobScience. However, Peter Gold, e-recruitment consultant and founder of Hire Strategies, believes we could start to see more arriving.
“Force.com has its strengths and weaknesses but it is a really good concept and easy to build a product on it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a few more
vendors enter the market,” he explained.
He added that Chatter could help to deliver a better candidate experience. “If an organisation wants two buyers in different departments and the same person applies for both positions, both departments have to talk to them. Recruitment systems don’t make it that easy to collaborate in real-time in the way social media does so that would be a perfect situation to collaborate.”
