Eden Brown’s high-flyer Thorpe becomes new chief executive

Public sector specialist Eden Brown has recruited from within to appoint its new chief executive, with Andrew Thorpe taking on the role.

Thorpe has been with Eden Brown for 11 years, joining as a consultant in 1998. He quickly rose up the ranks, and by the end of 2001 he was a team manager. While running a desk, his competitive nature was noticed. His motto was: “Some you win… some you win later.”

After a number of further promotions, Thorpe was made sales director and he steps up to chief executive from this position.

In addition, Ian Wolter has been promoted to chief executive of Hamilton Bradshaw Human Capital (HBHC) and chairman of Eden Brown (an HBHC company). Wolter was formerly chief executive of Eden Brown and his promotion will see him directing the portfolio of companies underthe HBHC banner.

Eden Brown has also chosen Nick Mather as manager for the social work team in Leeds, while Simon Ray joins the company to head up the equivalent division in Birmingham.

IT specialist Spring Group has chosen Steven Kirkpatrick, former UK head of Adecco general staffing, to oversee its general staffing division.
Kirkpatrick becomes managing director of the division, and will also be responsible for the Spring Personnel and Elizabeth Hunt businesses of the group.

John Faraguna is the new managing director of Hays’ global health and social care division. Faraguna was former chief executive of NHS Professionals, the health service’s temporary staffing and recruitment organisation. Brookson, the provider of accountancy, tax advice and othersupport services to contractors, has recruited two new members of staff.


Chartered accountants Lesley Hodgson and Emma Moss join the company, with Hodgson taking up the role
of director of limited company services, while Moss is appointed finance manager.

Mark Farris has been appointed to the post of non-executive director with the Emerald Group. Farris was one of the co-founders of property specialist Judd Farris.

Alium Partners, the interim management provider, has expanded its public sector practice with two new appointments. Peter Strachan has become head of the central government and police practice, while Jessica Bacon has been promoted from within the company to practice consultant.

Energize Recruitment, the IT and telecoms sales specialist, has chosen Philip O’Hara to be divisional director. O’Hara was formerly a director at Robson Taylor Selection and will be responsible for the business development and delivery team at the company’s Pall Mall office.

Executive search specialist Barnes Kavelle has chosen Neha Sharma from its associate office in Dubai to develop links with the increasing number of Indian companies with UK subsidiaries.

Anna Batros, formerly of CVUK and Whitepeak Group, has joined Four Seasons Recruitment as a senior consultant in the retail division.Mark Guest has been appointed as new managing director of Oilcareers.com. Guest joins from a company director role at AVC PR Partnership, where he spent the past 14 years developing his extensive knowledge of the oil & gas industry. He replaces Graeme Munro, who left to pursue other business interests.

Langley Search and Selection has appointed Richard Guest as senior consultant in its procurement recruitment team. He will be based in Langley’s northern office near Leeds. West Country recruitment specialist Concept Staffing has appointed a new manager for its Bridgwater branch. Janet Phillips comes with 10 years’ experience working in the recruitment industry.

Sandra Robertson has been named chief executive for Charterhouse Group International, the provider of renumeration, back office,immigration and financial services.

Engineering, IT, medical, commercial and building services recruiter Jenrick CPI has appointed Philip Fanthom as its new managing director. Fanthom was formerly sales director of the firm’s IT division and takes over from Peter Jezeph, who has retired after 25 years with the company.

IT rec-to-rec company Red Ventures has hired two new consultants to join its Manchester-based team. Carra Hart will be focusing on placing experienced IT recruiters in Manchester, while Max Barnard has been brought in to focus on the Reading and South-East market.

International technology recruitment specialist NetworkersMSB has strengthened its renewable energy business with the appointment of Adam Grainger as head of renewable energy. Grainger has 11 years’ recruitment experience.

Global recruitment firm Kenexa has appointed the recently retired head of British Army recruiting to spearhead its expansion into the government sector. Andrew Jackson joins the company as vicepresident of government solutions. Previously a brigadier in command of the British Army’s recruiting group, which enlists around 20,000 men and women each year, he managed a £60m operating budget and 2,000 people.

Charlotte McKeon and Kirsty Kemble join Lifeline Personnel, a leading London provider of administration and clerical staff to the medical sector. They will help develop the existing client base and also concentrate on new business development.

Recruitment insolvencies on rise at fastest rate since financial crash

Recruitment agencies are shutting for business at their fastest rate in 15 years, according to analysis by business news outlet CityAM.
