Effective change leads to higher engagement

Business needs to manage change better to engage with employees, which increases employee engagement tenfold, according to a global survey by Right Management.

Only 43% of UK employees believe change is handled effectively within their organisation, the talent and career management consultancy survey on engagement has revealed.

However, it also shows that where change has been well managed, employees are 10 times more engaged (60% against 6%).

Jayne Carrington, managing director of Right Management, says: “These results show how the perception of change drives the level of employment engagement.

“There is currently so much change in the UK workplace, be it restructurings, job moves or new leadership. Managers need to genuinely involve their people in the change process so they can adapt more easily, embrace change and enable their organisation to evolve over the long-term. This will also mean they are more agile and ready for growth for the upturn.”

Just one third (33%) of UK employees were found to be fully engaged with their job and organisation in the study. Overall, the UK ranked 10th out of the 15 countries surveyed, behind India, the US, New Zealand, Canada and Denmark among others. Japan was found to be the country with the lowest level of employee engagement at just 11%.
