Employer brand reliance raised for bonus cutters

Employers that cut bonuses will have to rely on their employer brand, according to recruiters.

Employers that cut bonuses will have to rely on their employer brand, according to recruiters.

Yesterday the BBC trust announced that it would suspend bonuses for top executives at the broadcaster.

Alison Hughes, director at HR recruiter Higher Talent, told Recruiter: “I think in this climate a lot of organisations have been introducing pay freezes.

“The BBC is quite a different organisation to many because people go to work for the BBC because of who they are, rather than the pay.

“The BBC has a lot more going for it in terms of employer brand and that is probably what attracts people to work for them.”

Rachel Gladdis, head of media recruitment at Career Moves, adds: “It is definitely the brand and experience as opposed to the benefits. It is more about the experience and what it would add to the CV.

“If you work in any country, they would know the BBC. They have been renowned for training and the ability to move around and gain experience.”
