Hire me, match me - and then keep me

Jethwa: definitely proved its worth

The company behind HireMatch.me, the online candidate assessment tool launched earlier this year, will be adding an internal assessment tool to its stable following its work with the global creative communications agency ADM Promotions (see recruiter.co.uk, 26 October).

Gareth Jones, commercial director, told Recruiter that currently the focus is still on refining the recruitment product but once this is completed it will look at redeveloping its engine for internal assessment.

“So there will be two offerings: one to help employers bring talent in and another to better manage that talent internally and for succession planning,” he said.

In a pilot programme, the competency profiling and job matching technology was used in ADM’s Shanghai division to gain an understanding of the key development areas for employees and to help develop the HR strategy to address them.

ADR’s global head of HR, Sunita Jethwa, told Recruiter it also highlighted preferred working styles that some of the employees themselves may not have thought about until they undertook the assessment.

“It definitely proved its value and not only will it be used internally but importantly will be part of our recruitment process going forward,” she said. “Key behaviours can be identified upfront, allowing us to structure and build teams according to the talent we recruit, which is critical in terms of ADM’s clients and how ADM operates.”

The company is now in the process of rolling out HireMatch.me globally.

HireMatch.me originally came about after its founders, Marc Mapes and OraRuth Rother, had a bad experience when looking for a job. Jones explained that they wanted to develop a tool that sifts and filters at the front end and also helps organisations better manage candidates.

While the product very much has its roots in the external recruitment market, Jones believes offering a tool to aid internal mobility will also prove timely. “We’ve become so dependent as organisations on hiring, it’s almost like a narcotic,” he said. “Personally, I don’t buy the war for talent. We’ve become so obsessed with bringing in new people and ideas that we’ve lost the ability to energise and manage our internal talent.

“Anything that can be done to give greater insight and more frequent and accurate insight into the talent we’ve got as opposed to the de facto ’someone’s left so we have to hire’, has to be tremendously valuable.”
