Media sector recruiters are trying to help broadcast candidates after ITV’s announcement it would cut 600 jobs, about 15% of its total workforce.
Judith Blair, managing director of media recruiter PCR, told Recruiter:
“In the last six weeks we have put a lot of information on the website for people finding themselves in that sort of situation. We are meeting people as they come through and are trying to give them very practical advice about the opportunities.
“There may be some crossover opportunities at the BBC, especially in Leeds and Manchester.”
Blair added the number of contractors PCR has at ITV has halved in the last six months.
Sam Blake, founder and chief executive of media recruiter Formula Won Media, told Recruiter:
“We get CVs on a daily basis from candidates with a broadcast background and there are limited opportunities in this sector. If broadcast candidates are looking to change direction they may find it difficult because in this current climate redundancies are happening on a daily basis and broadcast candidates are going to find themselves competing with people who already have a strong background in the role they are applying for.
