Last week’s collapse of Cambuslang Travel is a further blow for travel recruiters in Scotland, however, there are still opportunities in other parts of the country, according to recruiters.
Debbee Dale, director at AA Appointments Group, told Recruiter that Scottish independent travel agents have really felt the pinch during the recession, and that branch closures and mergers had resulted in fewer placements and business. However, she says there are signs of improvement in other parts of the country.
“We have been finding that the Midlands and Manchester has really picked up after slowing considerably from last year. We are delighted that some organisations have started recruiting again mid country and although not quite the same scale as London and the South there is definitely a rise in requirement over the past couple of months. Cruise is still selling well and the overall lates market did well and so there is still demand and companies are seeing things improve - as are we as a travel recruiter.”
Ian Brooks, director at Gail Kenny Executive Search, told Recruiter: “We are currently recruiting for a number of senior management roles for clients based in the North West, East Midlands, and Yorkshire, but these are businesses with national distribution networks.”
