Recruiters have given a mixed response to the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Business Confidence Monitor (BCM), which recorded an increase in optimism from -28.2 to +4.8, the first positive reading in two years. Although the figures point to an improving economy, some recruiters felt that the UK was not out of the woods. Caution was the theme running through the comments of many recruiters in England and Wales. However, Scottish recruiters were taking a dimmer view of the current situation.
