The number of apprenticeships began in the academic year to 31 July 2012 came to a final total of 502,500, up 10% on the previous year’s total.
The past year has also seen the minimum length of apprenticeships rise to 12 months and continued expansion in professions offering such programmes, recent examples including packaging and risk consulting.Comments new skills minister Matthew Hancock, who entered the post in last month’s cabinet reshuffle: “My message to employers is simple: apprenticeships make good business sense. I urge all employers to get involved."
