Network Rail’s head of resourcing Adrian Thomas says he is “quite enjoying the thought process of here’s an opportunity to do something new”, having announced he is to leave the company in February.
And he goes on to tell Recruiter that he is “also considering things outside the natural course [i.e. recruitment and resourcing]” including a potential career in the civil service or the not-for-profit sector.Thomas made the announcement via LinkedIn on Tuesday (11 December), and says a successor will be finalised “in the next couple of weeks”, with a handover period between the two to take place through January and February.
He has been with Network Rail for five years, during which time a major responsibility has been the recruitment aspect of the project moving the organisation to its new National Centre in Milton Keynes.
But having decided not to make the move himself, he has now been made “effectively redundant” after a period making a two-and-a-half-hour commute from his Kent home, which involved a bus, three trains and a long walk.
He says that he will remain in his roles as the chair of the Recruitment Society, and an ambassador for former Recruiter charity SoldierOn!, and is also due to take up the role of vice president at the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR).
