Bruce Mair, the head of IT practice at Alium Partners, says that a professional cannot simply choose to be an interim as an interim measure when they have nothing else going on in their career.
He says: “We get a lot of people who have been in permanent employment and find themselves on the market for whatever reason, and they think ‘I’ll go contracting for six months or be an interim for six months and the market will pick back up and I’m back into permanent employment’.”
“But we turn most of those guys away at the door because it just doesn’t work like that, for an interim it’s a career choice, it’s a lifestyle choice… you have to be fully committed.”
