Ann Downs, managing director at creative, marketing, PR and digital recruiter Green Shoots, tells recruiter.co.uk: “We’ve definitely seen an increase in demand in the last 12 months. We’ve hired a new consultant this week because of the upturn in the market.”
Downs adds the company had a particularly busy December, which is unusual, and was interviewing through Christmas and the New Year to meet demand.
Karina Beasley, MD at creative, design and digital jobs recruiter Gabriele Skelton, tells recruiter.co.uk “it is definitely on the up”. Gabriele Skelton hired a new consultant just before Christmas and plans to add three more before the summer.
Recruiters noted a difficulty finding candidates with a suitable level of experience – a problem that’s been exacerbated by the lack of graduate and low-level hires during the recession.
Beasley says that a lot of creative agencies had been limiting hiring personnel that did not require training and that it’s often difficult for smaller companies to operate the kind of graduate schemes needed to build up talent.
Steve Cooper, owner of design and creative recruiter gr8 Recruitment, tells recruiter.co.uk: “The demand is there and we’ve seen a lot of new assignments since the beginning of the year. With regards to the higher end creative jobs, they’re the ones that are hardest to fill, I hope there will be more quality candidates.”
