Be clear over social media screening, recruiters are warned

Recruiters have been warned to be as clear as possible with candidates over their use of social media in the screening process on behalf of clients.

Failure to do this could risk falling foul of new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules set to come into force this spring.

The warning follows journalist Toby Young’s recruitment as university regulator, whose appointment has been met with a social media backlash calling on government to rethink his hiring owing to posts the right wing journalist...
