BBC to include at least one BAME candidate on shortlists for top roles

The BBC has announced plans to ensure all shortlists for top-level roles have at least one BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) candidate.
In its report on career progression and culture for staff from a BAME background at the corporation, released earlier this week, the broadcaster committed to introducing a policy that ensures shortlists for all jobs at band E and above include at least one BAME person by the year 2020.
The BBC also committed to “dramatically” increasing BAME representation within its interview panels.
The report’s recommendations focused on five areas:
• increasing ethnic diversity of leadership teams
• building a solid and sustainable BAME mid and senior leadership pipeline
• enhancing accountability and trust
• developing a modern, agile and culturally intelligent workforce
• reviewing areas with specific ethnic diversity issues.
The BBC’s executive committee has accepted all the report’s recommendations unconditionally.
When contacted by Recruiter, the corporation could not provide further details on the salary range for band level E.
